CAHO Applauds Launch of MaRS EXCITE

The Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario (CAHO) applauds the establishment of the MaRS Excellence in Clinical Innovation and Technology Evaluation (“EXCITE”) announced earlier today.

EXCITE is a new public-private partnership created to establish effective pre-market evaluation of medical technologies.  This collaboration between the health system, academia, government, and industry aims to establish Ontario as the leading jurisdiction worldwide for pre-market evaluation of medical technologies.

“This is very welcome news for our community and for the advancement of health innovation in Ontario,” said Dr. Barry McLellan, Chair of CAHO, and President and CEO of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. “Improving the quality of health care includes the opportunity to adopt and practice health care using innovative and world-leading medical technology.  The EXCITE initiative will put Ontario at the forefront of assessing new technologies that will help revolutionize the way we care for Ontarians.”

CAHO is a member of the EXCITE Management Board and is represented by Dr. Catherine Zahn, President and CEO, The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and Karen Michell, Executive Director of CAHO.  CAHO will also provide expertise in assessing potential pre-market technologies as part of the EXCITE process.

“The CAHO Community looks forward to contributing to the success of EXCITE both as identifiers of health system needs and as receptors of innovative medical technology and enabling assessments of pre-market technology.” said Karen Michell, Executive Director of CAHO and Member of the EXCITE Management Board.  “CAHO Members look forward to the opportunity to engage in the EXCITE initiative both as innovators and adopters of new technology.”
