CAHO Capital Equipment Group Purchasing Initiative (GPI)
Ontario’s 25 academic hospitals have launched an initiative to jointly purchase capital equipment. Hospitals in Ontario spend over $300 million annually on capital such as diagnostic imaging machines and patient handling equipment. While collaborative structures exist for buying medical and surgical supplies, the purchasing process for capital equipment is largely fragmented across hospitals.
Over the course of this initiative, participating hospitals will jointly purchase selected equipment through a consolidated process. The initiative is being coordinated by the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario (CAHO), which is working with several procurement organizations - Healthcare Material Management Services, Plexxus and St. Joseph’s Health System Group Purchasing Organization.
Vendors and suppliers interested in registering for automatic email notification of CAHO GPI project updates and RFP releases can do so through the St. Joseph’s Health System Group Purchasing Organization website at www.sjhcs-gpo.com. Instructions for registering to the site are outlined in our CAHO Website Portal User Guide for Vendors.
